Won’t You Celebrate With Me
Third Thursdays @ The Wright
General Motors Theater at 7pm
Won’t You Celebrate With Me is a special Third Thursday event at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, inspired by Lucille Clifton’s iconic poem, Won’t You Celebrate With Me. This program invites attendees to reflect on the resilience, strength, and creativity embedded within the African American experience, celebrating the everyday victories of survival and self-definition in a world that often attempts to diminish them.
Through a powerful blend of spoken word performances, storytelling, and artistic experiences, the event will explore themes of survival, self-empowerment, and celebration. Drawing on Clifton’s words, participants will be encouraged to honor their own journeys of resilience and celebrate the continued cultural contributions of African Americans throughout history.
The evening will feature dynamic spoken word performances that embody the spirit of Clifton’s poem, sharing stories of creating life in the face of adversity. Attendees will also engage with visual art and experiences that highlight the strength and creativity of African American artists. This event offers a space for the community to come together, reflect on their personal narratives, and celebrate the shared strength of those who have defied the odds.
Join us for an unforgettable evening of reflection, celebration, and unity as we commemorate the power of survival and the transformative beauty of creating life on our own terms.
Event is free, but requires registration.
