Tour begins at The Wright, 315 East Warren Avenue in Detroit. Lecture will be at the museum’s General Motors Theater
Noted historian Jamon Jordan will lead a tour of streets and monuments in Detroit that honor slave owners. The tour will feature information about local slave owners such as Lewis Cass, Alexander Macomb, Francis Livernois, as well as national figures like Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History is currently mounting an exhibit--“Slavery at Jefferson’s Monticello: Paradox of Liberty”--that examines the lives and legacies of 600 people who were enslaved at Jefferson’s famous plantation. That exhibit closes on June 22. Tickets for the tour are $20. Seating for the tour is limited. The lecture is free and open to the public.
