The 2021 Treeposium will take place on September 21 at 6:30 pm EST.
The Treeposium, a tree symposium, will feature critical conversations amongst Detroit's artists, educators, students, elders, and architects, to ask: What have Detroit's trees seen? Answers will relate to the African American experience in Detroit, the science of trees, and how they're all connected.
This event arises from the d.Tree Studio project, a collaboration between the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History (The Wright) and the College for Creative Studies (CCS).
A groundbreaking part of Design Core's September Month of Design, sustainability, art, and the African American experience will converge at the Treeposium.
Making Connections
The project will utilize readings and guest speakers to affirm the deep connection between story making and object making and consider artistic responses in wood from felled urban trees, honoring their legacy and Detroit roots.
