2022 notable LEADER IN SUSTAINABILITY

The Wright's Chief Sustainability Officer, Leslie Tom, believes successful sustainability is a collaborative effort, and is working to define the “Green Museum of the Future.” Under Tom's leadership, The Wright partnered with the College for Creative Studies to extend the life of dead or dying trees on the museum's campus by developing a lumber woodshed studio.

Sustainability Excellence Award Recipient 

The Sustainability Excellence Awards is a signature program of the Environment and Climate Network that educates, facilitates, and encourages green practices in museums. The Wright and Michigan Science Center received the 2019 award for their collaboration on people-centered programs that engaged the museums and their community in a dialogue on sustainability. The programs worked to shift from a self-described “culture of waste” towards a holistic, institution-wide culture of environmentalism.

Celebrated Art Installation

The New York-based arts publication Hyperallergic covered The Wright's Shine a Light art installation (a joint collaboration created by artist Ash Arder, architect Aaron Jones, and the Manistique Block Club), an eco-focused project aimed to illuminate some of Detroit's darkest neighborhoods with nighttime projections of the city's elders.
