The Blueprint: A Love Letter to (Black) Women
Event Location: General Motors Theatre
Join us for Third Thursday at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, curated by Halimah Nurullah, as we present The Blueprint: A Love Letter to (Black) Women, a celebration of the strength, resilience, and unapologetic spirit of Black women.
Black women are the blueprint—the foundation of love and life itself, yet they have too often been misrepresented, misunderstood, and marginalized.
This powerful program is inspired by the legacy of Josephine Baker, the world's first Black superstar. An American-born singer, dancer, actress, and activist, Josephine Baker defied boundaries and became an international sensation after moving to France in 1937, where she found acceptance, freedom, and fame. Known for her courage, grace, and unapologetic presence on and off the stage, Baker returned to the U.S. to support the Civil Rights Movement, using her platform to fight against racial injustices.
One of only two women to have delivered a speech at the March on Washington, Josephine Baker was everything America loved and hated. She was Black, she was a woman, she was loud, beautiful, and fearless in her activism. Her story and legacy are a testament to the enduring power of Black women and their continued fight for justice and equality.
The evening will begin with a Third Thursday Mix & Mingle from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM, followed by the program from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Join us for an evening of reflection, inspiration, and tribute to the profound contributions of Black women throughout history.
