Black WOMEN Rock: The Exhibition!

April 17 - August 31, 2014

In 2004, nationally renowned poet jessica Care moore founded the highly acclaimed annual concert, Black Women Rock!, in Atlanta, Georgia, at the National Black Arts Festival. She dedicated the concert to the late rock and roll artist, Betty Davis, who never received acclaim as an early woman rocker - but nevertheless maintained her passion, power, and persistence in the music genre she loved.

Now in its tenth year, BWR continues to celebrate women who dare to rock-and-roll. BWR also recognizes artists in other art genres, such as those in the visual arts. Black WOMEN Rock 2014: The Exhibition! is an example of work created by both eminent and emerging artists ranging from painters, photographers, experimental artists and more.

moore hopes the concert, exhibition, and associated programs encourage discussions concerning women's bodies, inclusion, and greater recognition in the rock and roll genre. She also hopes that the exhibition helps educate and inspire women to follow their dreams – and to ROCK in every aspect of their lives.

Black WOMEN Rock 2014: The Exhibition! is free with museum admission.
