"Grow Your Garden" Community Event: Garden Swap, Arts & Crafts, and Expert Workshops
Detroit, MI – April 1, 2025 – The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History invites the public to participate in Grow Your Garden: Planting Seeds and Connections on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the Wright Community Room. This interactive, family-friendly event is designed to inspire local gardeners, promote sustainability, and foster community connections.
The event features a variety of hands-on activities and learning opportunities for both experienced gardeners and newcomers alike.
Event Highlights Include:
- Garden Swap: Bring your gardening tools, seeds, plants, and books to exchange with fellow garden enthusiasts. Organized by MetroSwaps, with plants provided by The Greening of Detroit, this swap is the perfect place to discover new plants and resources to help your garden grow.
- Garden Arts & Crafts: Participants will have the chance to create garden-inspired art, led by Olayami Dabls of the Mbad African Bead Museum. Using recycled materials from Arts and Scraps, attendees will craft African-centered patterns that will add a unique touch to their gardens.
- Mini-Lectures & Workshops: Gardening experts from Metro Detroit will lead mini-lectures on important topics such as composting, urban gardening, and food sovereignty, offering practical tips and advice for creating sustainable gardens.
