Hosted by Joel Fluent Greene, the evening will feature local favorites in poetry, nationally touring acts, live music, live art by acclaimed visual artist Nivek Monet, a local artisan marketplace, VIP admission, and table seating. Come join the family and see for yourself why Mahogany @ The Museum is Detroit’s hottest night out. Perfect for the sophisticated, fresh, and informed citizens of our great city.

THE MAHOGANY STORY.

Cafe Mahogany closed years ago but its memory and spirit are just as strong as ever. As a popular hub for poets, students everyday Detroiters and professionals during the mid to late 90’s it was a coffee shop...a stage...a meeting place...a HOME. From homegrown, yet internationally recognized names like Dwele, James Carter, J Dilla, Slum Village, and Jessica Care Moore. To touring acts that decided to stop by and enjoy the vibe, such as Common, The Roots, will.i.am, Erykah Badu and many more. Mahogany held a million beautiful moments. It gave Detroit a place where culture was celebrated and birthed our currently rich poetry scene. This show is about where we've been and where we're going. Paying tribute to our rich history while focusing on our bright future.
