The Wright Museum

The Charles H. Wright Museum and the Detroit Institute of Arts are pleased to announce our 2018 Literary Artist in Residence: the distinguished poet, award winning author, editor and educator, Quincy Troupe, best known for co-writing Miles: The Autobiography with the legendary trumpeter and band leader, Miles Davis.

The 2018 Literary Artist in Residence period is titled “The Evolution of the African American Voice.” The residency will explore and examine the influence of the African American church, its sermons, spirituals, gospel, work songs and the influence that the innovative, creative power the blues, jazz, rock ‘n roll and rap forms of music have had on the day-to-day, modern African American modes of communication.

Quincy Troupe: “The Evolution of the African American Voice" runs from October 2-16, 2018.
