Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History & Cafagna Arts and Entertainment present Rhapsody in Boop: A Jazz Celebration of the Music of Betty Boop featuring international recording artist and ASCAP award-winning composer Kathy Kosins, The Paul Keller Orchestra, and special guest appearances by local and national jazz artists including Dwight Adams (trumpet), Vincent York (saxophone), Ed Gooch (trombone), Sean Dobbins (drums) and more!

This live, multimedia big band celebration of the songs from the Betty Boop films of the 1930s features the music of Cab Calloway, Don Redmond, Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and many more. Embracing women's liberation, sex and politics, these musical contributions to the Max Fleischer films created a cultural and social breakthrough that helped skyrocket many of these artists into fame and fortune.  In addition, the DIA's Detroit Film Theatre will host The Fleischer Studios, a Musical Legacy,” Saturday, October 15 at 4 pm, which will demonstrate why Betty Boop creator Fleisher Studios was the only true rival to Walt Disney in the 1930s; ticket holders for Rhapsody In Boop will receive free admission to this screening, which has a $5 admission.  Finally, The Hackley Music Collection of The Detroit Public Library will have on display both at The Wright Museum and at the Detroit Public Library historic photographs and original music manuscripts from their archives, many of which are rarely, if ever, seen by the public.  Rounding out this wonderful weekend of jazz history will be performances by ragtime pianists Taslimah Bey and Alvin Waddles. All in all, this will be a wonderful weekend of jazz, for the music, film, or history aficionado!
