“The history of America is the history of the Negro in America. And it’s not a pretty picture.” Before he passed in 1987, famed American author JAMES BALDWIN began writing about the deaths of his friends, Civil Rights icon Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King, Jr. The book was never finished but the text still remains.  Using Baldwin’s own words, read aloud by narrator SAMUEL L. JACKSON, I Am Not Your Negro explores the history of race, class, and diversity in America, with themes that challenge and inspire.  Director RAOUL PECK’s use of archival footage combined with current news clips shows how the teachings of Baldwin have not lost their relevance over the years. As Baldwin states, “not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed if it is not faced.”  Winner of the TORONTO FILM FESTIVAL PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD.
