2016 Summer Camp Africa: HERO!

Monday - Friday, July 11 - August 12 from 8 AM - 3:15 PM Daily

Camp Africa: HERO! is a multidimensional S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) summer experience. Based on sports heroes of the African Diaspora, campers will explore both the character and talent that makes a sports legend a “Hero.” This FREE weeklong summer camp is open to children ages 7 – 12, and each session runs Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 3:15 daily.

Each day is an exploration of a seemingly endless variety of subjects: history; creative writing; kinesiology; geography; physical science; photography; printmaking; and more! The larger than life impact of Muhammad Ali, Pelé and others will be discovered - ultimately, to inspire our campers to unlock the hero inside each of them!

The diverse experiences your camper has will be woven seamlessly to facilitate learning, all while they have amazing amounts of fun! Campers will even discover how they can build their own "empires" using common-sense money management. Participants will end their weeklong experience with "The Wright Olympics,” a blend of sports spanning the African Diaspora and friendly athletic competition. No previous athletic experience required.

REGISTRATION: Limited spots are still available for children ages 7 - 12 who live in Detroit or Highland Park and are currently registered in a Detroit Public School, a Detroit charter school, or are home-schooled.
