Aretha Franklin's Public Viewing and Funeral Arrangements

Aretha Franklin's Public Viewing and Funeral Arrangements

Accessible from 9 am - 9 pm on August 28-29, 2018

From August 28-29, civil rights champion, fashion icon, daughter of Detroit, and undisputed Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin will lie in repose in the rotunda of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. The viewing is open to the public, and museum doors will open promptly at 9 am.

Due to the expected crowds for the event, we strongly suggest carpooling, ride-sharing, getting dropped off, Q-Line, etc.

Handicap Access

The building is wheelchair accessible, and we have a limited number of facility wheelchairs available.

Pictures and Videos

At the family's request, recording devices will not be allowed during the viewing. All guests will be instructed to turn off and store all electronic devices before entering the museum.

Other Museum Exhibits

All museum exhibits will be closed during Ms. Franklin's viewing, but we welcome visitors to stop by once the viewing ends.
