BKO Quintet from Mali - Sept 19 at 7 PM

BKO Quintet from Mali combines two distinct musical traditions of Mali into one seamless performance with an urban edge. As James Nadal points out in All About Jazz, “The BKO Quintet blended mixed musical identities resulting in a progressive production, all the while firmly rooted in traditions that date back thousands of years, proving that there is no such thing as limits, boundaries or frontiers when it comes to music.”

For this, their debut tour, BKO travels to Charleston WV to perform on NPR’s radio program Mountain Stage, along with Leo Kottke, among others. From there they travel to Washington DC where they will perform two shows, one at Bossa Bistro & Lounge (Sept 17) and the second in a program that combines a drumming workshop and concert at the African-American Civil War Museum (Sept 18). After stops in Detroit (Chas. Wright Museum of History) and Seattle (Clock-Out Lounge) the band ends up as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations for the iconic Berkeley venue Freight and Salvage (Sept 22).
